Tigers battle Bears to a draw
Georgetown College men's soccer team scored the first goal of a Mid-South Conference battle with Shawnee State University. However, the Bears equalized late in the first half and the teams played to a 1-1 draw.
The Tigers (1-0-1, 0-0-1) Jake McKettrick netted a rebound goal in the 11th minute and with the home team controlling the tempo it just seemed like a matter of when the next goal would come not if.
However, the Bears (3-0-1, 1-0-1) tied it off a set piece in the 42nd minute.
SSU sent in a corner that was headed, knocked off a Georgetown player and then headed again passed Jacob Roberts. Neither team could find the back of the net again, including in a pair of 10-minute overtime sessions.
GC dominated the overtimes, getting off five shots to SSU's zero.
The Tigers have little time to lick their wounds as they are back on the pitch 3 pm Thursday hosting Brescia University.
