Tigers tear cover off the ball in pair of wins

Georgetown College baseball had 23 hits and 22 runs Saturday in a pair of wins over Indiana University South Bend. The Tigers (11-6) defeated the Titans (0-9) 15-1 and 7-2 as they have won eight of the past nine games.

Early on it was a pitcher's duel between Shawn Dubin and Paul Geha. GC managed just three hits through four innings, when it all came apart for Geha.

Antonio Monroy got a four hit, six run inning going with a lead-off single. Ryan Garner drew a walk and Jake Purkins tagged a three-run home run for the first runs of the game. Geha hit two batters before he gave way to Zane Gonzalez. Brandon Benson and Shamon Moss scored on a triple by Sean Williams, who scored on a single by Chris Gilbody for a 6-0 lead.

The onslaught of offense continued after Dubin set IUSB down in order in the top of the sixth.

Brandon Benson's single scored Ryan Garner. Then GC was down to its final out to score eight more runs off two singles, two doubles and a home run.

When the dust settled at Robert N. Wilson Field it was 15-0. Richard Escobedo took the ball from Dubin, who had struck out nine of his 21 hitters faced.

Escobedo allowed one run on two hits, striking out two of the five hitters he faced.

Game two was much closer as GC's offensive production slowed some. The Tigers scored one in the first and added the necessary two more runs in the second.

The Titans responded back with two in the fourth before GC doubled its run total with three in the fifth and a 6-2 lead. Georgetown added another insurance run in the seventh for the final offense of the day.

Williams went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored in game two. He was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored in game one. Gilbody went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in game one.
