GC comes within a run of ending UC streak

Georgetown College baseball erased a 4-1 deficit for a tied game late, but University of the Cumberlands 20-plus winning streak continued. The Patriots scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth off Breion Barron for a 6-5 victory in game one.

UC (29-3, 7-0) dominated game two, 9-0, to improve to a 25 game winning streak. GC (16-13, 2-5) has struggled inside Mid-South Conference play, but in five losses three have been by a single run. The Tigers will look to end the Patriots streak 1 pm Monday in the finale of the three-game series.

Chris Gilbody was a hit shy of half the GC production in game one. He went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Tyler Wagner was the only other Tiger with multiple hits with 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Antonio Monroy, Ryan Garner, Phillip Tomasulo and John Shattles each had a hit.

Shawn Dubin went six innings, scattering nine hits, allowing three runs and striking out six. With his fifth, he became the new all-time leader in strikeouts for a season. Jason McGinnis set the standard in 2012 with 82. Dubin sits at 84 with a month left in regular season and a potential for a month more in postseason.

GC managed just four hits in game two against Zach Hurley. It was pitch by committee for the Tigers. Kyle Fieger went four innings with seven hits and three earned runs. Chase Ambrose and Michael Koltak each went an inning. Dorian Granados gave up three runs on three hits and did not record an out.

Wagner led from the plate going 2-for-3.
