Tigers lose two to Cumberland

Georgetown College baseball had a rough start against Cumberland University Thursday. With two outs Mykal Gordon hit a three-run homerun. CU never looked back. In game two it was a pitcher's duel until the Phoenix broke it open in the top of the seventh. The visitors took both games, 8-3 and 4-1.

The teams finish the three game Mid-South Conference series 2 pm Friday at Robert N. Wilson Field.

Shawn Dubin took the loss, going six innings with eight hits for six runs, five earned, with 12 strikeouts. GC used two more pitchers who each gave up two hits and a run in the final three innings.

The Tigers (17-15, 2-7) seemed on the rally track when a three hit, three run third made it a two run game. CU (26-11, 5-3) responded with a run in the fourth. It never got closer.

Kyle Fieger held the Phoenix to just one score through six innings when a leadoff homerun by Gordon. Two more runs scored on five hits.

Ryan Garner led off with a double and eventually scored in the bottom half of the inning, but GC got no closer. Garner finished with two of the teams five hits in game two.

Antonio Monroy and Chris Gilbody led in game one with two hits apiece. Gilbody added another hit, starting game two with a bunt single.
