Tigers blast out big win over No. 15 Pioneers

The weather has heated up and so have the Georgetown College baseball Tigers. Wednesday against No. 15 Point Park University it was not the offensive onslaught of double-digit runs variety, but a pair of long balls ignited the win.

GC (22-18) got a lead-off home run from Chris Gilbody and Rodnee Little added a two-run shot in the fourth as the Tigers took an 8-1 win at Robert N. Wilson Field.

Georgetown added five runs in the team's final two at-bats, tagging four Pioneer (31-5) pitchers for 11 hits. Gilbody, Antonio Monroy, John Shattles and Diego Perez all had two hits. Monroy scored twice, while John Shattles and Little had two RBI.

Defense supported the offense with pickoffs, runners caught stealing, a double play and even on an errant throw caught the PPU base runner trying to advance home.

It was a shutout until the ninth inning when the visitors started with back-to-back doubles. GC coach Micah Baumfeld pulled starting pitcher Breion Barron and closed the game out with Dorian Granados.

Barron went eight and a third with six hits, one earned run, five strikeouts and one walk. Granados hit the first batter he faced to load the bases, but then got Erik Montero to pop out in foul territory to Tyler Wagner and Richard Perez to hit into a fielder's choice.

These two teams square off once again 4 pm Thursday.

Georgetown has scored 65 runs in this 5-0 winning streaking dating back to this past weekend's three-game series with Shawnee State University. For the season the team has 232 runs, meaning in five games the guys have scored nearly a third of this season's runs.

The Tigers have allowed just six runs in that same stretch, four coming Tuesday afternoon against in-state rival Union College.
