Tigers split day two with Asbury

Georgetown College baseball broke open a close game Sunday with three runs in the eighth. The Tigers (1-2) then shut the door in a 7-4 win over Asbury University.

The rubber match of the series was a seven-inning affair in which the Eagles (6-1) won 6-3. AU scored three runs each in the first and second innings and never looked back.

Josh Duarte led off in the opener on Sunday and got GC rolling. He was 3-for-4 from the plate with a run and an RBI. Josh Brodt continued to make solid contact with two hits in his three plate appearances with a run and two RBI.

Georgetown had eight hits total with Luke Turino, Shota Usuda and Nicholas Dilorenzo coming through with one hit and a run each. Turino and Usuda picked up an RBI each, while Eric Thrower and David Rojas accounted for the other runs.

Johan Castillo picked up the win, pitching six innings with nine strikeouts. Keon Taylor tallied his first save with three innings worked and seven strikeouts.

Six hits provided six runs aided by a pair of errors to start game two. GC started to rally back as Duarte led off the third with a single and Turino was hit by a pitch. Usuda came up two outs later and roped a double for a 6-2 game. Thrower's line drive was snagged a batter later though and ended the threat.

GC got one more run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough.

Usuda had three hits, while Duarte and Thrower each had two.

Andrew Day went five innings, scattering 11 hits with three earned runs and seven strikeouts. Pasquale DeFillipis set down the side in order during his lone inning of work.

Georgetown is back in action noon Tuesday playing another neutral site doubleheader in Florence, Ky. against Indiana Tech.
