Krennrich helps Tigers to take series

Doing anything to get the job done. That is a pretty accurate description of Georgetown College baseball's Brandon Krennrich. He showed why in the weekend series against Lindsey Wilson College. The senior played catcher on Friday, was the designated hitter in game one of the twin bill and capped Saturday off as the pitcher who also got the seventh inning going with a double that eventually led to the game-winning run.

It was his only at bat of game two, after he was relieved on the mound at the start of the sixth inning by Keon Taylor. From the mound, he threw 87 pitches, struck out seven, scattered three hits and allowed two runs.

LWC (4-5, 1-2) took leads in the top of the first and third innings, forcing GC (5-4, 2-1) to rally as both teams were fighting for the series win in the rubber match game.

Justin Bordt brought life to the Tigers with his solo shot to right field in the bottom of the third for a 2-2 game. From that point on, only one hit occurred between the two teams – the Blue Raiders had a one-out single in the sixth.

The game seemed on track for extra innings when Krennrich stepped to the plate in the bottom of the seventh. He needed just two pitches to send a shot to right center. Jacob Dezarn came in to run for him, stole third on a wild pitch and Isaiah Bumgarner singled to right to score Dezarn.

GC returns to play 1 pm Friday for a doubleheader with Indiana University-South Bend.
