Tigers split day one with IU South Bend

Georgetown College baseball split the opening day against Indiana University South Bend. The Tigers (8-4) came out strong with a 9-4 game one win, but in the seven-inning affair ran out of a time in a 6-4 loss.

These two teams square off against Saturday. First pitch set for 1 pm.

Brandon Krennrich got the win, going six innings and scattering three hits. He was in for two runs, only one earned, with six strikeouts. He helped his own cause at the plate with two hits on four appearances with an RBI.

GC's offense was all about multiple runs. It started strong with three in the first. Added two in the third, including what proved to be the winning run, and tacked on four insurance runs in the sixth.

Dashon Moore, Justin Brodt and Val Stammler joined Krennrich with multiple hits. Moore led, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Stammler's two hits drove in four runs and he also scored a run. Brodt and Moore each had a homerun.

IUSB scored four in the fourth to regain its early lead. The visitors tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning of game two.

Johan Castillo went four innings, scattering seven hits and allowing five runs. The Tigers managed just five hits in game two as Eric Thrower led the way with two.
