Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Campbellsville
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College baseball team split a conference doubleheader against visiting Campbellsville University this afternoon. Campbellsville claimed the season series 2-1 being only the second team all season to win a three-game series against Georgetown.
The Tigers moved to 25-14 on the season and 15-6 in the conference while Campbellsville goes to 13-24 overall and 7-12 the Mid-South.
Andrew Cromwell went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs, and a pair of runs scored on the day.
Georgetown is back home on Tuesday, April 19 when it takes on Missouri Baptist University in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch for game one is slated for 11 AM.
Game 1: Georgetown 3, Campbellsville 4 – 7 innings
Down 4-0 going into the bottom of the third, Georgetown's Jaxon Spiegelberg singled back to the pitcher with one down. After a lineout to center by Joshua Duarte for the second out, Spiegelberg stole second to move into scoring position. Cromwell in his first at-bat parked a two-run home run over the left-field wall to cut the lead in half to make it, 4-2. Eric Burckle tried to expand his single to left into a double but was out at second to end the Tiger threat.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Flock drilled his seventh home run of the season to make it a 4-3 game before the inning ended. He is now tied for first on the team in home runs.
The Pioneer bullpen allowed one hit over two-innings to hold on for the win.
Georgetown relievers punched out six and allowed two hits over four innings of work. Tiger starter Daniel Jaime took the loss as he fell to 1-1 on the season.
Game 1: Georgetown 4, Campbellsville 2
After holding the Pioneers scoreless for the first two and a half innings, Georgetown posted four runs on four hits in the bottom of the third. Isaiah Bumgarner and Spiegelberg drew back-to-back walks to get things rolling. An infield single to short by Duarte loaded the bases for the Tigers. Cromwell followed up with a single up the middle that drove in a pair of runs and moved Duarte to second.
A perfectly executed double steal by Cromwell and Duarte moved both of them into scoring position before Burckle's single down the left-field line plated them to make it, 4-0. Georgetown kept the inning alive when Justin Brodt singled to right-center but then three straight outs ended the frame.
The Pioneers were able to push a pair of runs across in the top of the fifth to cut the lead in half and make it, 4-2. But Tiger reliever Jake Manderson threw five strong innings while punching out seven and allowing one hit to earn his fifth (5-2) win of the season.
