Baker Twirls Gem in Debut

Game 2 of the doubleheader was what you would claim to be an old-fashioned pitchers duel. Another newbie would get the start for the Tigers, as Barry Univ. transfer Trevor Baker would be handed the reigns. After an exciting fall, Baker came in with high expectations, and not only did he live up to them, but he exceeded them exponentially in his Tiger debut. Baker looked like pure dominance, as he would go 8 innings, strike out 10, walk 1, and do it all on 97 pitches, where 68 were strikes. His most dominant inning would be the 4th, where he was very close to an immaculate inning, but still struck out the side looking. Fellow transfer Bryson Huwar would come in for the 9th inning, and continue the trend of dominance. Only allowing one base runner while striking out one, and keeping it scoreless for the offense in the 9th. With Baker getting a no-decision, Huwar would pick up his first collegiate win, and move to 1-0.

The bats were not as on fire in the latter half of the doubleheader, but familiar faces stayed hot. Both Landon Dismang and Joshua Duarte would have 2 hits, accounting for four of the Tigers 5 total hits. Jarrett Chapman had the other. The Tigers had a chance to walk it off in the 7th, but three strikeouts with the bases loaded did not look good. The same situation arose in the 9th, but this time SSU would only get one strike out before Julian Huerta came to the plate. Huerta would put a ball in play, and make SSU make a play. They were unable to, and Huerta would reach on the fielder's choice, and walk it off for the Tigers.
