Tigers Sweep Shawnee State Courtesy of Starkey

Looking for the sweep in the series finale, another transfer would toe the slab. This time Chad Baker, twin to Trevor Baker, would make his Tigers' debut. He would not be as dominant as his twin, but still do enough to leave the Tigers in a position to win. He would go 4 and ⅔ innings, striking out 4 and walking 4. He would exit in the 5th. Anthony Barrera would relieve him, and enter the tied ball game with a runner on third and two out. He would get a quick ground out first baseman Justin Starkey to end the frame. Barrera would return for the 6th, and strike out two and get a fly out, to make quick work of SSU. Bryson Huwar would enter in the 7th, looking for his first collegiate save, but would not be on his A game, as he would let three runs in, after plunking 3 SSU batters. SSU would have some timely hits and great hustle to plate their three runs, and give them the lead.

After being hitless through the first two games in the year, junior transfer Jacob VonThaden would cash in two runs in the third thanks to his single through the right side. The Tigers would get back in the run column in the 5th, when junior transfer Justin Starkey would plate home Joshua Duarte and Hank Schineller, after Duarte placed them in scoring position with his double. Starkey's line drive up the middle would give the Tigers a 4-2 lead heading into the latter half of the game. After SSU's 3-run 7th, the Tigers would need a 2nd walk-off to secure the sweep and victory. Sam Turilli would lead it off in the 7th, after he replaced a red hot Landon Dismang who was injured, but would pick up right where Dismang left off with a single to right field. He would then advance to second on a dirt ball. Hank Schineller would then be walked and Duarte would get hit to load the bases with no outs. Step up, Justin Starkey. With the bases loaded, Starkey would lace a single through the left side, and Turilli and pinch runner Ben Raybourne would come home to score, and give the Tigers their second walk-off in as many days. Huwar would get the win, moving his record to 2-0 on the young season.
