Tigers Fall in Pitchers Duel

Tigers Fall in Pitchers Duel

Looking to bounce back after a bad showing on the opening day, the Tigers turned to Trevor Baker in their matchup against Mid-America Christian. Baker is fresh off winning conference pitcher of the week, due to his efforts against Shawnee State. Baker looked like the same exact pitcher we saw from the week prior. He would cruise against the lineup, as no batter would get past second base till the 6th inning with two outs. Baker would give up his first run of the year on a full count home run, which would tie the game at 1. Over his six innings he would strike out nine batters, with only allowing five hits, where three came from one batter. So over his first 14 innings over the year, Baker has 19 strikeouts, while only allowing 1 earned run. Bryson Huwar would come in for Baker in the 7th, with no outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd. Huwar would try his best, but an infield single would plate MACU's winner. Huwar would go on to strikeout the side. Baker would get the loss, and his record would move to 0-1 on the year.

The offense looked primed to break out again. In the first, following two free bases, Jose Cazorla would plate the Tigers the opening run. The Tigers would then be held scoreless over the remainder of the game. Over the final three innings, they would strikeout eight times, while only getting one hit.
