Baker Picks Up First Win

Head coach Randy Guite would entrust Chad Baker with the ball for game one of their series against in state foe Union. Things didn't start off ideal for Baker, as he hit the leadoff batter with the first pitch of the game. However, he would come back to strike out the next two, and get a fly out to get out of the inning.

In the second, Union would get on the board first with two outs. After that, Baker would throw up 4 zeros in a row to keep the Tigers in it. Union would get their 2nd in the 7th, after a perfect bunt and sac-fly. This is all that Baker would allow in his seven innings of work. Over the seven innings, he allowed the two runs on four hits, but struck out seven Union batters.

The final two innings were given to freshman closer Bryson Huwar. Though Huwar didn't have a save before this, he had been getting the late inning situations. The 8th would be quick after an out, and a double-play to end the inning. The 9th would be a little difficult after the first two batters reached. They would be put in scoring position after a sac bunt, but this is where Huwar would step up. He would get a jam shot to second, and then end the game on a strikeout. Huwar picks up his first save.

The offense would answer back in the second with two runs. The first would be scored by Jarrett Chapman after he would come around to score on a ground out by Huerta. Joey Lapolla would also come around to score on a single from Enrique Morales

The Tigers would get back in the run column in the 5th thanks to a Union mishap. Sam Turilli would reach on an error, then come around to score on a 99.9 mph double from Hank Schineller with two outs. The 8th inning saw some more timely hitting, but this time from Jacob VonThaden. VonThaden hit a liner through the left side to score Landon Dismang. Dismang ran for Payton Rios after he had hit. Dismang would then steal second and third with two outs, then score. The Tigers score 4 on 8 hits.
