Duarte Leads a Potent Offensive Attack

Entering today's start, Anthony Barrera had thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings. That streak would not be continued, as he would give up a home run in the first. Barrera would bounce back in the second, and throw a scoreless frame. St. Xavier would get back in the run column in the 3rd and 5th, to plate their second and third runs. That would be all that Barrera would allow over his five innings of work. He would only K 3 batters in this one.

The Tigers got on the board in the 3rd. The first two runners got on via error, and were in scoring position with no out. This exact situation has haunted the Tigers all year, but the story would be different in this one. Jacob Dezarn would fly out to right to score the first. Joshua Duarte would then single up the middle to give the Tigers the lead at 2-1.

Heading into the 6th, the Tigers would be down 2-3, with 9-1-2 up in the order. All three would reach base, with the first of the daggers being a home run from Duarte to give them the lead at 4-3. These would be the first two of eight runs scored. Errors would be the Tigers friend in this one, as this helped them get bases loaded for Austin Vincent. With the bases loaded and two out, this same situation has haunted the Tigers all season. Like in the third, the Tigers would cash in. Rather than one of the stars, Vincent would lace a single to center to plate home two, making it 7-3. Duarte would then get another rbi via a walk, and then Landon Dismang would reach on an error, and plate home the Tigers 10th run of the game.

The 7th, the Tigers would get back in the run column via a single from Garret Thurman. The Tigers would get their 12th and 13th runs on a long ball from Diondre Jacob. The 6th and 7th innings were entrusted to Chris Lenocker, who would only allow a run over the course of his outing. Barrera picked up the win in this one, to win his 3rd consecutive outing, and move to 3-1 on the year.
