Offense Explodes at Shawnee State

After only getting six hits the day before, the Tigers would go on to triple that number in this midweek game against Shawnee State. The offense started out hot with the tablesetter Joshua Duarte leading it off with a single through the left side. He would then come around to score on a single from Landon Dismang. The second would be a hit parade for the Tigers, as they would score six runs on five hits. A walk, single, triple, single, single, single, hit by pitch, and a sac-fly would give the Tigers an early 7-0 lead.

Julian Huerta got the start, and would have little concern with this one, as he never pitched without a lead. He would work a clean first, but give up a solo home run in the second to make it 7-1. Shawnee State would get two more off of Huerta in the third and fourth, to make it 16-3. Huerta would only work four innings in this one. The final three innings would be given to Steven Salazar, who would work three scoreless frames while striking out one and walking none. Huerta gets the win, and now moves to 2-1 on the year.

In the third, Duarte would get the Tigers back on the board with his third homer of the year, making it 9-1 at this point. The 4th would be another big frame for the Tigers, as they would score 7 more runs on six hits. In the inning, Jose Cazorla would have a 2-run double, Jacob VonThaden and Austin Vincent would have rbi singles, Duarte would have a rbi triple, and Landon Dismang would hit his second homer of the year. After 4, it was 16-3, Tigers.

The Tigers would score five more runs in this one to eclipse 20 runs for the second time in three games. Duarte led the offensive attack, as he was a double shy of the cycle, and went 5 for 6, raising his average back to .500. Dismang and Vincent also had big days collecting three hits a piece.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday against Lindsey Wilson. The Tigers look to pick up their third win in MSC play, with first pitch being at 1 pm.
