Tigers Go Quiet in Game 1
Hosting in-state foe Pikeville in a midweek doubleheader. Chris Lenocker took the ball in the first game, for his first start of the year. In the 1st, he would work around a one-out hit, to work a clean first. Similarly in the 2nd, Lenocker would induce a tailor made ground ball to get a double play. In the 3rd, Lenocker would get torched for four runs. That would be the end of the day for Lenocker.
In the 4th, Ian McNabb would try his turn in keeping this a 4-0 lead. A leadoff out made things look like it would end well, but three consecutive hits now led to a 6-0 lead after four.
Mitchell Knight would be next out in the 5th. A leadoff single and a hit by pitch, gave the Bears two runners on. However, Knight would work diligently out of it, striking out the next three to get out of it, without allowing a run. The trend of strikeouts would continue for Knight into the 6th, as he would K the first batter of the inning. He would then plunk the next batter, but once again get a tailor made ground ball to turn the Tigers 2nd double play of the game. In the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers would finally get on the board after Austin Vincent doubled to left-center, and came around to score on a ground out from Payton Rios. Pikeville would finally get to Knight in the 7th. He would give up 3 runs, but only one being earned after two errors.
Making his collegiate debut, Freshman Braxton Burse would come in to relieve Knight with one out, and stop all bleeding. Jacob VonThaden would help out his freshman pitcher by throwing out a runner at 2nd, which would then free up Burse to K the next batter looking. Lenocker picks up the loss in this one, which moves his record to 1-2 on the year.
