Opportunities Squandered by Tigers Offense

Heading into one of the biggest series of the year, Georgetown would turn to ace Trevor Baker on this Friday to try and snag game one for #3 Cumberlands. Through the first three and a half innings, we had a true pitchers duel, as there had only been one hit. That all changed when Joshua Duarte led off the 4th with a single and a stolen base. Jarrett Chapman would then double to right center, and plate Duarte, to take the lead. Chapman would stay stranded at third, after a strikeout and two pop ups.

After 5 superb innings from Baker, the Patriots would get to him in the 6th. A leadoff double and sac-bunt gave CU a runner on third with one out. The infield would be drawn in, and a liner would sneak through to plate home the equalizer. The Patriots would get another on a triple to right. After 6, Baker's day would be finished. Baker's day finished with only allowing two runs and 7 strikeouts, while walking none. In his best efforts, Baker held down a potent and dangerous offense.

Julian Huerta would come on to work the remainder of the game, as he would go three innings, and only allow one run on a homer. The Tiger pitching gave the offense multiple chances to get back in the game, as a strikeout in the 6th with two runners on ended that frame. The best chance for the Tigers came in the 7th, when they had the bases loaded, and Chapman up. Unfortunately, the Tigers would squander all opportunities and fall by a score of 3-1.

Game two is slated to begin at 1 pm, with game three following shortly after. The Tigers will need to win at least one to have a chance of being the two seed in the conference tournament, and for Bethel (TN) to not sweep Campbellsville tomorrow.
