Errors cost Tigers in season opener

Opening day is always a special moment in a baseball season. Georgetown opened its 2025 campaign at Milligan on Saturday. The Tigers had an early lead, but errors mounted and Georgetown couldn't recover in dropping game 1 of the doubleheader to Milligan, 5-3.

Georgetown opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd as Keano Suarez scored on a fielder's choice by Jose Cazorla. After an Aidan Jbara double to the right-center gap, Jarrett Chapman brought Jbara home with a single to left for a 2-0 lead.

Milligan got its first run after a failed pickoff attempt by Tigers' starter, Anthony Barrera. Another error followed on the next at-bat to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Barrera walked the following batter to load the bases. He then gave way to Bryson Huwar on the mound. After a line out, Milligan scored another on a fielder's choice to tie the game. Milligan got 1 more run in the inning to take the lead.

Georgetown answered back in the top of the 5th. Cole Grable led off the inning with a single to right. He moved to 2nd thanks to a single from Jose Cazorla. Grable moved to 3rd on a walk and ultimately came home on a wild pitch to tie the game. Milligan got the run back in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead.

In the bottom of the 6th, Milligan led off with a hit-by-pitch. A pinch-runner stole 2nd and moved to 3rd thanks to another Tiger error. The run came home on a fielder's choice for a 5-3 lead. In the top of the 7th, Georgetown got a runner on, but 3 strikeouts negated any threat as Milligan took the opener.

Bryson Huwar took the loss despite allowing just 1 earned run in 3 innings of relief behind Anthony Barrera. The tandem only allowed 5 hits in 6 innings of work, but it was not enough. Although Georgetown raked 9 hits, Jarrett Chapman was the only Tiger with more than 1 on the day. Aidan Jbara did reach base 3 times, thanks to 2 walks.
