Chapman's 3-run HR not enough in Game 2 loss

Georgetown's bats were shut down in Friday's opening loss at Campbellsville. On Saturday, the bats came alive in the 1st game of the day, but Campbellsville's bats came too as CU took the 2nd game of the series, 11-8.

Georgetown got out to a quick lead in the top of the 1st. Peyton Young drew a leadoff walk and stole 2nd. He went to third on a groundout and would eventually be brought home on an Aidan Jbara single to center.

Anthony Barrera got the start for Georgetown and retired the side in order in the bottom of the 1st. The bottom of the 2nd was a different story. Barrera hit the leadoff batter, who went to 2nd on a passed ball. A single and walk followed to load the bases with 1 out. Barrera induced a pop-up for the 2nd out. A wild pitch followed and allowed the tying run to score. Another walk re-loaded the bases and a single brought 2 more runs home for a 3-1 CU lead. The next batter roped a double to left center to score 2 more and give Campbellsville a 5-1 lead and bring Barrera's day to an end after the 2nd inning.

Beau Becker came on for the 3rd inning and gave up a leadoff homer for a 6-1 deficit. Georgetown went quietly in the top of the 4th. Becker struggled in the bottom of the inning. Campbellsville started with a leadoff double. Becker did retire the next 2 batters, but the 3rd out proved elusive. A single to center scored another run for a 7-1 Campbellsville lead. A wild pitch moved the runner to 2nd, who would score on a single to left to give Campbellsville an 8-1 lead after 4.

Georgetown finally made its move in the top of the 5th. With 1 out, Cole Grable reached on an infield single. Peyton Young singled to right and as Grable went 1st to 3rd, Young took 2nd. Payton Rios then laced a double to right, scoring both Grable and Young. Jose Cazorla drew a walk to put 2 runners on. Jarrett Chapman then stepped in and launched a bomb over the left field wall for a 3-run homer to cap a 5-run inning as Georgetown cut the Campbellsville lead to 8-6.

Georgetown had a chance for another run in the top of the 6th. Elijah Verge drew a leadoff walk. He reached 3rd on 2 wild pitches with only 1 out. He was left stranded as Grable and Young struck out to retire the side. Campbellsville played add on in the bottom of the 6th with a solo homer to take a 9-6 lead. 2 singles followed to put the pressure on. The next batter doubled to left to score 2 more runs for an 11-6 lead heading to the 7th. Georgetown was able to put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 7th but left the bases loaded to end the game and clinch the series for Campbellsville.
