Campbellsville finishes sweep of Georgetown

After a small lead in the 1st game of the day that got away, Georgetown looked for more in the series finale against Campbellsville. The Tigers raced out to a nice lead early, but the Campbellsville bats remained too strong as CU scored 11 unanswered to finish off the series sweep of Georgetown.

Georgetown loaded the bases with first 3 batters reaching by a walk and 2 HBPs. Aidan Jbara then lifted a sac fly to center to score Peyton Young. Jarrett Chapman followed with a single to left, scoring Payton Rios. Elijah Verge then singled to right to score Jose Cazorla. Chapman would score as Verge was caught trying to steal 2nd to give Georgetown a 4-0 lead after a half inning. Chris Lenocker got the start for the Tigers and retired CU in order in the bottom of the 1st.

The Tigers added another run in the top of the 2nd. With 2 outs, Peyton Young doubled to center. Payton Rios then drew a walk. Young was brought home on a single from Cazorla for a 5-0 lead. Georgetown had a chance for more with the bases loaded but Chapman popped up to end the threat.

It was not until the bottom of the 4th that Campbellsville got to Chris Lenocker. After a leadoff strikeout, Lenocker hit the next 2 batters. A double followed to bring a run home. With 2 out, Lenocker walked a batter to load the bases. He then gave up a triple and double in consecutive at-bats to tie the game at 5. A wild pitch and another hit batter spelled the end of Lenocker's day as Sam Turilli was brought on. Turilli hit a batter to load the bases again, but was able to get out of it with a groundout to leave the game tied after 4.

Mitchell Knight took over in the bottom of the 5th, allowing a walk but no more as the game headed to the 6th. In that inning, Knight gave up a leadoff single and walk. A sac bunt followed to put runners on 2nd & 3rd with 1 down. The next batter walked to load the bases. Knight then got a ground ball, but the batter beat the throw to 1st, allowing the go-ahead run to score.

Campbellsville added another run in the bottom of the 7th on a wild pitch from Bryson Huwar. CU would tack on 4 more off Huwar in the bottom of the 8th to cap off the sweep with an 11-5 win.

Although Georgetown scored 5 times in the first 2 innings, Campbellsville's staff rallied as Georgetown mustered 1 hit over the final 7. Mitchell Knight took the loss for the Tigers.

Georgetown steps out of conference on Tuesday with a trip north to take in IU Kokomo. First pitch is slated for 3:00pm.
