Tigers lose tight one on the road

Georgetown College football scored a touchdown on its first series out of the break and added a safety to score nine unanswered. However, a defensive battle turned into an offensive match late with Bethel University getting the last strike in a 25-24 win in McKenzie, Tenn.

Next up for the No. 8 Tigers (4-1, 1-1) is No. 1 Lindsey Wilson College 2:30 pm ET in Columbia, Ky. Saturday.

GC needed quarterback Brandon Burgess to rush for three touchdowns. He hooked up with Jake Johnson for a two-point conversion after the third to make it a touchdown difference late in the fourth.

Bethel took the next series and went nowhere, but the Wildcats defense made it three and out while keeping all three timeouts in the home team's pocket. This led to a quick drive for a touchdown and BU's own two-point conversion for a one-point lead with 55 seconds left.

Georgetown tried to get something going, but Jerwin Young squashed that with a batted down pass on fourth down. BU took the knee to finish it off and for the second time this season upset a Top 10 team at home.

The Tigers broke up the defensive struggle with some trickery as Jake Johnson took a backward pitch, rolled out and threw a strike to Aaron Maggard for a 53-yard play. Burgess then rumbled for his second rushing touchdown of the game. The Tiger defense added a safety, at which point Georgetown was up 16-7 and seemingly taking control of the game.

Bethel used two fourth-down conversions on one offensive drive that started to turn the tide. The first was a fourth and one at midfield and the next was fourth and 10 deep in GC territory. The Wildcats scored and following series took their first lead since early in the first quarter with a 30-yard field goal.

After five series ended in a punt or turnover, GC woke up to drive the field for its final points.

The teams traded punts which led to the last-minute march by the home team for the win.
