Georgetown Football remembers Coach Jack Ison

Jack Ison, who served as an assistant coach for Georgetown Football from 1999-2006, passed away Saturday evening at the age of 86.

During his time at Georgetown, Coach Ison was part of arguably the most successful run in the history of Tiger Football. The program went 93-11 in during Ison's 8 years on staff. In that time, Georgetown won 2 national championships (2000, 2001), reached the championship game in 1999 and 2002 and won at least 9 games every season.

Former Georgetown Football Head Coach, Bill Cronin, shared his thoughts on the passing. "It was truly a gift when God made way for Coach Jack Ison and his family to join the Tiger Football family back in 1999. Jack was an example of how a coach should carry himself as a professional, leader, and mentor to young men. I thank God for the opportunity to learn from one of the very best in the business. Jack, you will be missed but remembered for many years to come. May he rest in peace. A life well done."

Coach Ison also served as an assistant coach for 30 seasons at Eastern Kentucky University from 1967-1997. While on staff at EKU, the Colonels won 2 NCAA 1-AA National Championships. He is part of both the EKU and Georgetown College Athletics Halls of Fame.

He is survived by his wife Pat, daughters Libby and Mindy and their families.

Flags will be lowered to half staff on the Georgetown College campus in honor of all that Coach Ison gave to Georgetown. Georgetown Athletics sends its most heartfelt condolences to the Ison family and all those whose lives were made better by a true legend, Jack Ison.
