Neal, Gossett, Holleran earn NAIA All-American Honors

Darius Neal, Blake Gossett, and Chad Holleran were named AFCA NAIA All-Americans on Wednesday, as announced by the American Football Coaches Association. It marks the 5th straight season Georgetown has had at least 1 All-American.

Darius Neal was named a 1st Team All-American after one of the greatest seasons by a running back in program history. Neal finished the year with a school record 20 rushing touchdowns, while running for 1,372 yards, 3rd most all-time. He tallied 6 games of over 100 yards rushing and tied a school record with an 88-yard TD run in a win over Pikeville.

Blake Gossett and Chad Holleran were named 2nd Team All-Americans by the AFCA. Gossett was the starting center and anchor for an offensive line that cleared the way to nearly 200 rushing yards per game and 35 points per game. He was a key factor in helping Darius Neal turn in the season he had. Chad Holleran led the defense with 97 tackles on the season and anchored a defense that gave up just 15.3 PPG. He also had 3 sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and an interception return for touchdown against Kentucky Christian.

Georgetown Head Coach, Chris Oliver, discussed the honor for these student-athletes. "On behalf of our entire program, I would like to congratulate Darius, Chad, and Blake on this tremendous honor.   Being named an All-American is a special achievement, and these three were obviously a huge reason for our team success this year.," Oliver said. "While this is an individual accolade, each of these three young men are terribly selfless in their pursuit of team achievements and would gladly point to the contributions of their teammates toward this great honor."

All of their efforts helped lead Georgetown to a 10-2 season and the program's first appearance in the NAIA FCS Semifinals since 2011.

According to the AFCA, the selection committee is made up of two head coaches from each of the AFCA's seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as chairman of the selection committee.
