Tigers fall in semifinals

Georgetown College men's basketball had a sluggish start – 14 points in 20 minutes – and fell in the Mid-South Conference tournament semifinals to Thomas More University. The Saints opened up a large lead in the first half and held on for a 65-49 win.

GC took a couple of early leads, but with just more than 14 minutes left TMU tied the game at seven. The Tigers managed just two made baskets and three free throws in that final stretch as the Saints (16-8) opened up a 22-point edge.

The two seeded team mounted a second half rally and when Derrin Boyd hit a three, the deficit was eight with more than 10 minutes left to play.

Thomas More had the answer again as GC went scoreless for another three minutes. The lead grew back to double-digits and never got closer.

The Tigers will await the NAIA Selection Show, set for 8 pm Thursday. This is the first year for Division I and II to be joined and thus the addition of opening round regional sites. Georgetown will learn its fate with eight sites playing host this season – Alexandria, La.; Crestview Hills, Ky.; Lewiston, Idaho; Marion, Ind.; Montgomery, Ala.; Omaha, Neb.; Park City, Kan.; and Wichita, Kan.

Each site will have six men's teams and six women's teams. Those teams will be divided into two tournaments of three. The two winners of each gender will then advance to the final round site – Kansas City, Mo. for the men – where the final 16 will battle it out for the national title.
