No. 13 Tigers Collect Win No. 20

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College men's basketball team picked up its 20th win of the season with a 73-63 victory over Cumberland University on Wednesday night. The Tigers moved to 20-3 overall and 13-3 in the conference while Cumberland falls to 13-6 and 9-6 in the conference.

 

The Tigers opened up the first half on a 12-4 run and held Cumberland to a free throw and a 3-pointer during that run. Georgetown's defense allowed the offense to open the game up even more as it used a 9-4 run to make it 21-8 with 12:21 remaining. Cumberland climbed right back in it as it used a 14-3 run to trail 26-24 with just a little over seven minutes remaining. The Tigers made sure the rest of the half didn't get close again as it put together a 14-4 run to go up 40-28 going into the half.
 
Georgetown carried over its momentum to start the second half as Drew Lamont got things going as he drained a three-off a pass from Derrin Boyd, which sparked a 10-4 run to put the Tigers up 50-32 with 16:20 remaining. The Phoenix were able to get the lead to under ten off a three-pointer to make it a 50-41 game. For the next four-plus minutes both teams exchanged baskets, which allowed Cumberland to keep the game under 10 points. With eight minutes left and Georgetown up 60-51, the Tigers used a 16-5 run to push the lead to, 66-56. Cumberland attempted to get back in the game but the Tiger defense was too much for them as it held the Phoenix to seven points in the last 3:24 of the game and
allowed Georgetown to come away with a 73-63 victory.
 
Georgetown shot 50% from the field and 93.3% (14-for-15) from the line while shooting 40.9 percent beyond the arc.

Tiger Kyran Jones paced all players with a team- and game-high 26 points while shooting 10-for-16 from the floor. He grabbed eight boards in the process. Teammates Jayrese Williams and Cam Brooks-Harris each finished with double-figures in points. Williams tallied 13 points while going perfect from the foul line (4-for-4). Harris finished with a team-high two blocks to go with his 10 points.

Georgetown is back in action this Saturday as it hits the road for a 5 pm game at Lindsey Wilson College.
