Tigers race by Grenadiers to go to 4-0

Georgetown and IU Southeast have been long-standing respected rivals. The two teams renewed pleasantries on Tuesday night at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. While the game was tight for the 1st 15 minutes, the Tigers went on a 20-5 run to close the 1st half and break the game open en route to a 91-67 win.

The Tigers and Grenadiers traded early baskets and the lead on a warm night inside Davis-Reid. JJ Reed hit a 3-pointer for IUS to tie the game at 9 with 15:51 to go in the 1st half. Tae Dozier responded with a 3 of his own just 18 seconds later to put Georgetown up 12-9. While the bucket put the Tigers ahead for good, IUS would not go away despite Georgetown's efforts in the 1st half with multiple runs. A lay-in from Isaiah Mason at the 12-minute mark put the Tigers up 20-13, but IUS immediately answered with a 3 to hang close. Georgetown countered with a 7-0 run, punctuated by a 3-point play from Aden Nykean and the lead grew to 27-16 with 9:34 to go in the 1st. The Grenadiers fought back to within 30-28 with 4:45 to go. Rashad Bishop countered with a huge dunk and after an IUS turnover Cam Brooks-Harris nailed one of his 5 threes on the night to spark the 20-5 run to close the 1st half. Brooks-Harris hit 2 more threes in the run and Georgetown took a 50-33 lead to halftime.

IUS scored 6 of the first 8 points in the 2nd half to close within 52-39 but another 3 from Brooks-Harris stopped the run and gave momentum back to GC. He would hit another 3 with 15:42 to go, putting Georgetown ahead, 62-40. Georgetown's lead would grow to as large as 31 in the 2nd before IUS hit a few late shots to bring the final Tiger margin of victory to 24.

Cam Brooks-Harris shot 5-10 from downtown, en route to a team-high 17 points. Kyran Jones tallied his 2nd straight double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Rashad Bishop finished a rebound shy of his own double-double, 13 points and 9 boards. Isaiah Mason shot 6-9 for 12 points in 17 minutes off the bench. Tae Dozier and Jabrion Spikes each dished out 7 assists as 11 different Tigers got into the scoring column.

Georgetown will next take on Midway on Thursday night at 7:00pm at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
