Tigers fall on last-second 3-pointer

As is usually the case when Georgetown travels to Lindsey Wilson, the game is tight and comes down to the wire. The Tigers were reminded harshly on Saturday as the Blue Raiders' Connor Robinson hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to send Georgetown to a shocking 64-62 loss and a regular season sweep for Lindsey Wilson.

Outside of Rashad Bishop, no Tiger ever had an offensive rhythm the entire day. Bishop scored Georgetown's first 10 points of the game. The first Tiger other than Bishop to score was Kyran Jones and that bucket did not come until 9 minutes into the game. Despite that fact, Georgetown was able to maintain a lead at 12-9 after the Jones' basket. Both defenses remained strong as it was not until the 5:20 mark of the half before either side crossed the 20-point mark. The flow continued back-and-forth until the game was tied at 28 at halftime. Rashad Bishop finished the first half with 18 points, 9 rebounds (7 offensive) and 2 blocks. He was the only Tiger to make more than 2 field goals as GC shot just 35%. Georgetown had as many offensive rebounds in the first half as made baskets (13) and missed on all 9 attempts from 3-point range.

Lindsey Wilson scored the 1st 5 of the 2nd half before Cam Brooks-Harris finally snapped the Tigers' slump from beyond the arc. He would hit another 3 with 15:56 to go to put the Tigers ahead, 36-35. After a steal by Rashad Bishop, Kyran Jones hit a 3 to put Georgetown up, 39-37 with 14:31 to go. Less then 3 minutes later, Tae Dozier got going with a 3 and 2 free throws on consecutive possessions as Georgetown led, 46-43 with 12:19 remaining. Rashad Bishop followed with a lob dunk from Dozier to push the lead up to 5. The Blue Raiders countered with 5 straight to tie the affair, but Dozier and Bishop answered once more. After another Bishop dunk from Dozier, Lindsey Wilson took a timeout, trailing 52-48, with 7:46 to go.

After a defensive stop, Georgetown missed twice from beyond the arc, but got offensive boards on each, which led to Jaquay Wales' only basket of the game, giving the Tigers a 54-48 edge with 7:05 on the clock. Georgetown did not score from the floor for over 4 minutes as the Blue Raiders chipped away and tied the game at 55. Kyran Jones finally snapped the slump with 2:37 left to give GC a 58-55 lead and another Lindsey Wilson timeout. After a turnover and missed shot from Georgetown, the Blue Raiders were again able to tie the game at 58 as the game went under 1 minute to play. That was when Jabrion Spikes stepped up and knocked down a huge 3 to put the Tigers ahead with just 55 seconds to go. On the ensuing LWC possession, the Blue Raiders went 1-2 on free throws as Georgetown led 61-59 with the ball and just 40 seconds remaining. The Tigers would turn the ball over on the next possession and Johrdon Mumford hit 2 free throws to tie the game at 61 with 39 seconds left.

The Tigers worked the clock down. Jabrion Spikes missed a jumper with 9 seconds left but got his own rebound and was fouled. Spikes went 1-2 from the line after the team's 22nd offensive rebound of the game. With Georgetown leading 62-61 and just 6 seconds on the clock, the Blue Raiders advanced the ball and called for time again with 4 seconds left. Out of the timeout, Connor Robinson slipped through a screen and knocked down a long 3-pointer to put Lindsey Wilson ahead with 1 second left, capping a career-high 25-point day. Georgetown could not get a shot up on the ensuing inbound and were left with another stunning loss in Columbia.

Rashad Bishop finished a stellar personal day with 22 points, 12 rebounds (8 offensive) and 4 blocks. He was the only Tiger to make more than 4 baskets in the game. Tae Dozier ended with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 20 minutes off the bench. Kyran Jones finished with 10 points and 7 boards.

Despite a 47-23 advantage on the glass and 22 offensive rebounds, Georgetown could not overcome 36% shooting and just 5-23 from beyond the arc.

The Tigers return home on Thursday for a big showdown against Freed-Hardeman. Tip time is set for 7:30pm
