Tigers get back on track with Bethel sweep

After 2 straight losses, #13 Georgetown got momentum turned around on Saturday with a 78-57 win over Bethel to sweep the regular season series.

Bethel scored the first 4 points of the game after early Tiger turnovers. Rashad Bishop and Tae Dozier countered and after consecutive baskets from Jabrion Spikes, Georgetown took an 8-6 lead with 16:15 left in the half. The buckets were part of a 7-0 run that gave the Tigers the lead for good. 2 dunks from Rashad Bishop later gave the Tigers a 19-9 edge and sent Bethel into a full timeout. Georgetown was able to keep Bethel at bay for the rest of the half as the Tigers took a 40-29 halftime lead.

The lead continued to slowly build in the 2nd half for Georgetown. Early baskets from Tommy Thomas and Aden Nyekan gave the Tigers a 50-35 edge with 14:52 to go. Bethel scored 6 straight to get within 9, but Jabrion Spikes answered with a tip-in. After a Bethel miss, Tae Dozier grabbed a rebound and fired a pass ahead to Cam Brooks-Harris who threw down a thunderous, highlight dunk that set off the bench and Davis-Reid Alumni Gym crowd. The lead went back to 13. Isaiah Mason and Aden Nyekan then found the range and Georgetown led 59-43 with 11:43 left. Mason then hit a three with just over 10 minutes left then forced a steal and runout dunk and Georgetown led 64-43 with 9 minutes to go. Bethel never got within 17 again.

Jabrion Spikes led Georgetown in scoring with 14. Cam Brooks-Harris tallied 12 in 19 minutes off the bench. Kyran Jones wiped the glass on both ends with 14 rebounds. The defense proved the difference as Georgetown held Bethel to just 33% from the floor and 1-9 from beyond the arc.

The Tigers now await the arrival of Cumberlands next Saturday for Senior Day at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. Tip time is set for 3:00pm.
