Defense, Bench lead to 20th win

The 2023-24 iteration of Georgetown Men's Basketball may not be as high-flying as teams of the past, but the Tigers continue to find ways to win. The defense held Campbellsville to just 9 baskets in the 2nd half, and Chris Briggs got 32 points from his bench in a 73-60 win, giving Briggs another 20-win season.

Cam Brooks-Harris and Jabrion Spikes knocked down threes just over 1 minute into the game. That was followed by scoring drought of 3 minutes, 37 seconds before Kyran Jones put it to an end and gave GC an 8-5 lead. Offense was slow to come for both sides in the early going. Five straight points from CU's Darius Harding gave his side a 12-10 lead, but the advantage lasted just 20 seconds as Cam Brooks-Harris hit his 2nd three to put Georgetown up 13-12 with 13:54 to go until halftime. The teams continued to trade baskets the rest of the half. Georgetown led by as many as 8 in the half before Campbellsville answered with 14-7 run to close with the game tied at 32.

The second half started the same as the first for Georgetown: 3 points from Cam Brooks-Harris. These 3 all came from the foul line to put the Tigers ahead. Campbellsville countered with a 7-0 run to surge ahead, 39-35, with 17:01 to go. Baskets from Jabrion Spikes and Isaiah Mason tied the game briefly before Campbellsville scored to move ahead by 2 at 41-39. A Spikes 3 then started a 16-2 run over the next 5-plus minutes to give GC a 55-43 lead midway through the half. The defense continued to smother Campbellsville and the lead reached as high as 18 in the latter stages before CU scored the final 5 points of the game.

Kyran Jones led a balanced scoring attack for GC with 13 points and 11 rebounds. He was one of 5 Tigers to score between 10 and 13 points on the night. Cam Brooks-Harris, Jabrion Spikes and Isaiah Mason each scored 11, while Aden Nyekan added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. The team effort also showed on the glass as Georgetown pounded Campbellsville on the boards, 41-23. It led to Georgetown having a 20-6 edge in 2nd chance points. Georgetown also finished the night with a bench points advantage of 32-2.

The Tigers next head to Cumberland to close out the regular season. Tip time on Saturday is set for 4:00pm.
