Quarterfinal loss ends Men's Basketball season

Georgetown took on the College of Idaho in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship on Saturday. The Tigers got off to a nice start with the 1st 5 points of the game. College of Idaho countered with 18 straight and never trailed again as they eliminated Georgetown with an 83-71 final to end the Tigers' season at 29-5.

Dre Boyd and Jaquias Franklin delivered the 5-0 start for Georgetown. College of Idaho countered with an outside shooting display that Georgetown had no answer for. 2 straight threes gave the Yotes the lead with 18:29 to go in the half. The Yotes would go on to hit 7 of 8 from the field and 4-5 from 3 to race out to an 18-5 lead with 14:37 to play. Dre Boyd ended the run with back-to-back baskets to get the Tigers back within 9. The teams traded baskets and free throws until the Yotes had a 30-19 lead with 9 minutes to play until halftime. Tae Dozier hit a midrange jumper and after a missed 3 from the Yotes, Gavin Stevens nailed a long 3 from the right wing to cut the deficit to 6. College of Idaho immediately answered with a 3 of its own.

With 6 minutes until halftime, the Yotes hit another 3 to take a 36-26 lead. Georgetown countered by going inside to Andres Burney for a basket. Jabrion Spikes then picked off a pass and fed Darien Lewis for a run-out dunk. With 3:31 to play, Dre Boyd scored inside as Georgetown cut the deficit down to 4 at 36-32. Andres Burney made it a 2-point game with 2:43 to play. Georgetown's final points came on Jaquias Franklin 3 with 34 seconds to play as College of Idaho took a 41-37 lead to halftime. The Tigers trailed by 4 despite the Yotes hitting 7 of 11 tries from beyond the arc in the first half.

The 2nd half continued the 3-point barrage from the Yotes as they hit a 3 less than a minute in for the first points of the half. Jabrion Spikes scored inside to make it a 44-41 game with just over 17 minutes to play. College of Idaho hit another 3 just 14 seconds later. A basket from Darien Lewis with 16:48 to play cut the margin to 4 at 47-43. Georgetown went scoreless for the next 3 minutes, 8 seconds. In that time, College of Idaho rolled off 10 in a row to break the game open with a 57-43 lead. Georgetown would not get back within single digits until a Dre Boyd basket with 5:01 to go, cutting the deficit to 9 at 72-63. The Tigers would never get closer again as College of Idaho moved on to the Fab Four and ended Georgetown's season with the 12-point win.

Jabrion Spikes led 4 Tigers in double figures with 16 points. Dre Boyd ended with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Jaquias Franklin scored 13 and Andres Burney tallied 10.

The 3-point shooting proved the difference in the game. College of Idaho hit 12 threes on 25 tries, while Georgetown shot just 4-13 from beyond the arc.

Georgetown ends its season at 29-5 and records its 22nd trip to the quarterfinal round in program history.
