Men's Golf sets school record in opener

Men's Golf Head Coach Austin Sparks felt confident about his squad entering the 2022 season. It didn't take long for the golfers to deliver on that expectation as the Tigers set a new school record on Day 1 of the Blue Raider Fall Kickoff at The Pines on Monday.

Georgetown set a new 18-hole team scoring record, going 8-under par in round 2 of the opening day of the season on Columbia, KY. The Tigers sit in 2nd place out of 7 teams after Day 1 of the 2-day event. The Pines at Lindsey Wilson was playing at a Par 70 score and 6,368 yards.

Jake Damron set the scoring pace for Georgetown by firing a 67 and 68 on the day to finish tied for 7th on the individual leaderboard. Dalton Robertson followed Damron on the GC leaderboard w/ a 72 and 67. Robertson started the historic 2nd round with an eagle on the opening par-5. Steele Paden, Cole Logsdon, and Sean Mullarkey birdied #1 to start their days fast. The Paden, Logsdon, and Mullarkey trio all carried rounds in the 60s on a warm, humid day. Heath Petty rounded out the Georgetown effort by shooting a 146 on the 2-round day.

"I was interested to see how the guys would come out on such a humid day. They were locked in from the get go," Sparks said. "Their ball striking was solid throughout the day and I was especially pleased with how they read the greens. Putting was key to the entire day. We don't set an 18-hole school record like this without it. I was so proud of the team today. It was a great start to the event, and we are looking to carry that momentum into day 2."

The Tigers will hit The Pines once more on Tuesday to conclude the 2-day event.
