Damron in top 15 after Day 1 of MSC Spring Tourney

Jake Damron turned in consecutive rounds of 74 on Day 1 of the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament, putting himself in 11th place heading into the final day of the tournament. As a team, Georgetown finished the 36-hole opening day in 8th place. The tournament is being played at Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain in Crossville, TN.

Damron started his 1st round on #10 and got going with 3 straight pars. After a bogey on the par-4 13th, Damron righted the ship with 5 more pars to finish his 1st 9 at +1. He would birdie #1 to get to even par and would stay there until the par-5 4th. On 4, Damron had unfortunate luck and would double-bogey, dropping to +2 on the round. He would bounce back again with 5 pars in a row to close round 1 with a 74. Damron's 1st 9 in round 2 proved to be a rollercoaster. After a par on his opening hole, the 10th, Damron would bogey 11 and 12 to drop to +2 after 3 holes. He would par 13 before a strong tee shot on the par-3 14th put him in position for a birdie, which he nailed. He would birdie the par-3 16th to get back to even par on the round. The 18th proved to be the hiccup on the day as a double bogey put him back to +2 at the turn. Damron would settle in and par every hole on the front 9 to end with another 74.

Steele Paden turned in solid rounds of 76 and 76, putting himself in a tie for 22nd after 36 holes. Sean Mullarkey rebounded in round 2 after an opening 82, with a nice 76 to end his first day. Cole Logsdon turned in rounds of 83 and 80, while Heath Petty finished with an 83 and 89.
