Senior Day success in 6-1 win over Bears

Georgetown College men's soccer has faced two of the top 15 teams to start conference play. However, the difficult setbacks did not alter the team's spirit on Senior Day Saturday against Shawnee State University. The Tigers (6-5-1, 1-2) scored early and often in a 6-1.

"I'm really pleased about today's performance. The guys came out and played with a real purpose and showed what kind of soccer of which we are capable," said GC coach Derek Willis. "Nick Gregory was terrific with his finishing, and our build up play was what created so many chances. Apart from the one goal Shawnee scored, I thought our defending was excellent."

JT Stephens started it all in the sixth minute, then Nick Gregory netted four straight spanning the two halves to put the game away. Stephens assisted on the second Gregory goal and also assisted on a late goal by Zachary Jaquess. Noah Mills also got an assist.

SSU (2-12, 0-3) put one up late as Alek Blevins scored off a Mitchell Patchett pass.

The Tigers outshot the Bears 16-10, 9-4 on frame. Patrick Schwarz came up with three saves and spoiled several other crossing opportunities.

GC is back in action 3 pm Friday against No. 23 Cumberland University.
