Patriots early goals do in Tigers

Georgetown College men's soccer found itself behind quickly Wednesday in Williamsburg, Ky. University of the Cumberlands scored a goal off a corner and one of a penalty kick. The Patriots controlled the game from there, netting three more before the Tigers (10-2, 1-2) got on the board late in a 5-1 loss.

UC (5-4-1, 1-1) used its second set piece, second corner kick, to put the first score in just more than 10 minutes into action. Less than five minutes later a foul in the box led to a penalty shot that put the game away. Jacob Roberts came up with some huge saves for the rest of the first half to keep his Tigers in it, but any hope of a strong second half rally was squelched when Cumberlands scored goal three 31 seconds into the final 45.

The final two insurance goals were spaced out, but Georgetown never went away. The Tigers continued to claw and Jake McKettrick ensured it would be a shutout. GC leads the nation in goals per game average as well as total goals and total assists.

The Tigers have little time to dwell on the setback, bringing in Life University (5-3, 2-0) 8:30 pm Friday to kickoff Homecoming weekend.
