Georgetown College men's soccer started fast, but wore down against University of the Cumberlands Wednesday. The Patriots (7-4-3, 6-2-1) scored a couple in the first half to take control, winning 3-1.
The Tigers (10-3-1, 5-3-1) found an early breakaway goal, working the ball out of the back and hitting Chris Gschwent on a flat run. He got past the defense and crossed it through. UC's goalie disrupted the play, but was unable to corral the ball. Mark Zimmermann came in to finish and the early edge was the home team.
Cumberlands then took control and eventually leveled the game as Rodrigo Riveros worked through three defenders for a one on one and goal. He put the visitors up for good with just more than two minutes left in the first half.
The Patriots notched the cushion midway through the second off a goal that bounded between the two posts off a crossing shot.
GC is back in action 5:30 pm Saturday hosting Life University in the final home regular season game.
