After 2 draws to start the 2024 season, Men's Soccer was looking for a breakthrough on Tuesday night at Berea College. While the Tigers started slow, the bench proved huge in the 2nd half as Georgetown exploded for 4 goals en route to a 5-0 win, to give Interim Head Coach John Manga his 1st win.
Arthur Rudolphi made his 1st start in goal for Georgetown on a sweltering night in Berea and was tested in the 7th minute but came up with a save. It would be the first of 5 saves on the night for the Tiger newcomer. He would be aided by the offense in the 14th minute as Co-Captain Frederik Pederson found the net off a strong pass from Xavier Hale to give Georgetown the early lead. Pederson nearly had a 2nd just 19 seconds later but was denied. The teams went back-and-forth for the rest of the 1st half with neither side showing much scoring threat.
Daniel Saer was part of several Tiger changes at halftime and he would make his presence felt as the half went along. His spotlight was borrowed by Co-Captain Luca Perrin in the 63rd minute. Off a corner kick, Perrin found room in the box off a pass from Pedro Canal to score and put Georgetown up 2-0. Saer wanted in on the action and got it in the 72nd minute as he scored off a pass from Pederson for a 3-0 Tiger lead. Saer wasn't finished as he took a Mohammed Mouzoune pass in the 80th minute and tucked the ball away for his 2nd goal in 8 minutes and pushed the Tiger edge to 4. Mouzoune wasn't to be left out as his stellar start to the season continued with a goal in the 86th minute for the 5-0 final score.
In total, Georgetown's offense was just too much for Berea. The Tigers put 13 shots on target for the night, compared to just 5 for Berea. GC also had 6 corner kicks in the 2nd half alone, which kept the pressure on during a physical match that saw 27 fouls called and 5 yellow cards issued.
The Tigers will now prepare for the home opener on Friday night at Toyota Stadium against Indiana East. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
