Men's Soccer suffers 1st loss of 2024

Men's Soccer faced its toughest opponent to date in the 2024 season on Friday. The Tigers took on Marian on rain-soaked afternoon at Toyota Stadium with the Knights proving to be too slick on this day, knocking off Georgetown, 5-1.

The Knights proved fast, aggressive, and of quality from the outset as their first strike towards goal came just 42 seconds into the fixture. Georgetown's Pedro Canal had two chances on goal early but both were sent away. Marian's breakthrough came in the 21st minute as striker, Phillip Seifert, found space towards the right side of the GC box and flipped a shot towards the left side of the frame for the opening goal. The Knights added a 2nd goal in the 33rd minute to double the lead. Georgetown tallied its lone goal of the day in the 39th minute as Mohammed Mouzoune spun left in the box and chipped a shot over the Knight keeper's left shoulder to bring Georgetown within 2-1 at halftime.

Once the teams came out from the halftime regroup, Marian went right back on the attack. A goal in the 51st minute re-established the 2-goal advantage. Georgetown nearly had the answer in the next minute. Nicolas del Aguila had a chance at the top of the six-yard box but was denied. Mouzoune tried to tap home the deflected shot but was also turned away. The threat would prove to be Georgetown's last on this day as Marian turned up the pressure. The Knights eventually added goals in the 65th and 82nd minutes for the 5-1 final result.

Simon Heine was under constant threat all day in the Georgetown goal. While Marian did put 5 on the board, Heine still finished with an impressive 7 saves. In total, Marian outshot Georgetown 25-13 over the 90 minutes and enjoyed an 11-3 edge in corner chances.

Mouzone's goal has him at 7 for the season and sitting on 19 total points. He and the Tigers will regroup ahead of next Tuesday night's match against Oakland City. Kickoff from Toyota Stadium is set for 7:00pm.
