On Friday night, Georgetown took on Cumberlands for the 2nd time in 4 days with a berth in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Semifinals on the line. Cumberlands got the upper hand early and kept it going all night long in a 6-1 win to end Georgetown's season.
The Patriots got going in the 5th minute as Adrian Choco snuck a ball by Tigers keeper, Lukas Steiner, for the early 1-0 lead. Georgetown nearly had 2 chances in the following minutes. A Pedro Canal offering in the 9th minute banged off the post and deflected away. Mohammed Mouzoune had a look in the 11th minute but was denied at goal.
Cumberlands took advantage with a second goal in the 20th minute to double its advantage. In the 38th minute, the Patriots' Salvador Martinez scored his second straight on the night to expand the Cumberlands lead to 3-0. The Tigers had one last look before the half, but Mohammed Mouzoune's shot sailed high over the bar.
Mouzoune got redemption in the 48th minute. Cumberlands was called for a foul in the box to give Georgetown a penalty kick. Mouzoune stepped up and buried his 12th goal of the season to get Georgetown on the board and back into the match. Daniel Saer nearly had a goal just 2 minutes later but was denied at goal. The match stayed 3-1 until the 69th minute when Cumberlands' Bruno Marques scored for a 4-1 lead. Just over 2 minutes later, the Patriots tallied another. Rodrigo Riveros tallied his 12th of the year for a 5-1 advantage. The final score came in the 84th minute from the Patriots' Nicolas Caicedo for the 6-1 result to bring the 2024 season to a close.
Mohammed Mouzone's goal brings his freshman season total to 12 along with 7 assists for a team-best 31 points. Pedro Canal finished 2nd on the team in scoring with 16 points to bring his Tiger career to a close.
Georgetown now turns its focus to the offseason to build on the success of year 1 under Head Coach John Manga, while trying to replace an outstanding senior class who donned the orange & black for the final time tonight.
