Tiebreakers Costly in Men's Tennis Loss to Asbury (Ky.)

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - Three times on Saturday, Georgetown College's men's tennis team had opportunities to take a set from an opponent from Asbury University. Only once in those three chances were the Tigers successful in taking the win, and that proved costly for the Tigers as a team.

Georgetown (1-3) lost a tiebreaker at number two doubles that gave Asbury (1-0) the doubles point, and a tiebreak went against Georgetown at the top of the singles lineup to give the day's result to Asbury, 4-2.

Cole Wilson and Parker Clarke got things off to a good start for the Tigers at the top of the doubles lineup with an 8-5 win, and despite a loss at the number three doubles spot, Georgetown found themselves in a tiebreak in the middle of the lineup for the doubles point. Unfortunately for Georgetown, the tiebreak went the way of the Eagles and Asbury took the lead into singles play.

Tsugunosuke Hirose and Zach White each took singles wins, Wilson won the first set at the top of the singles lineup, and Clarke secured his first set in a tiebreak, which set up the Tigers in position to take the win. Both Wilson and Clarke, though, were unable to hold their leads, and Asbury rallied to take the match 4-2 with the number six singles match unfinished.

Georgetown will wrap up a busy weekend on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast (2-1) at 1 p.m., once again at the Top Seed Tennis Center in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
