Men's Tennis drops Spring opener to EKU

Georgetown Men's Tennis kicked off the Spring 2024 season with a road trip down Interstate 75 to Eastern Kentucky University. While the Tigers fought hard, the Colonels were too much in a 6-1 win.

Maxcene Barriere showed why he is one of the more highly-touted players heading into the spring campaign. He teamed with Will Barnes for the Tigers lone point on the day in a 6-3 win in 1st doubles action. On the singles court, Barriere was locked in a thriller with EKU's top single, Evzen Holis. Barriere took the first set 6-4 before dropping the 2nd, 4-6. The match continued well beyond normal time, but Holis made enough shots to take the 3rd, 10-8.

Stephen Taylor did pick up a 6-3, 6-2 win in #6 singles action, but the result was not counted towards the overall team score. The singles matches featuring Will Barnes, Alex Straiger, Tsugunosuke Hirose, and Chase Hechemy were all won by EKU in straight sets.

The Tigers are next in action on Friday, February 16th when they travel to Virginia to take on former NAIA and Mid-South member, UVA-Wise. The action starts at 2:00pm.
