Men's Tennis knocks off Centre

Men's Tennis traveled to Danville on Saturday for a matchup against Centre College. Georgetown controlled much of the action on the day and came out with a 5-2 win.

After an opening doubles loss, the tandem of Chase Hechemy and Matthew Smith even things up with a 6-2 win. The 3rd doubles match decided the team point and Georgetown took it. Andrew Kennedy and Tsugu Hirose came out with a hard-fought 6-4 win to get the Tigers on the board.

In singles play, Hirose delivered once more. In #4 singles, he comfortably took set 1, 6-1. Set 2 proved tougher as Hirose nearly pushed it to a tiebreak, but fell 5-7. The veteran showed strength and poise in the deciding 3rd set by putting up a dominant 6-0 win. Leo Schirmer also needed 3 sets at top singles action. He won the first set, 7-5, dropped the 2nd, 2-6, before grinding out a 7-5 win in the 3rd.

Chase Hechemy and Stephen Taylor helped Georgetown lock up the win as each won their singles matches in straight sets.

The Tigers now take 12 days to prepare for a trip to Richmond to battle Eastern Kentucky University. The action is set for a 5:00pm start.
