Bio
Coach Tony Mirones has been involved with throwing for the past 35 years as a coach and athlete. Before becoming a Tigers Coach, Mirones volunteered for three years as the throws coach at Williamstown High School in Grant County, KY. There, he helped athletes earn several KHSAA state championship appearances.
More recently, in August 2024, he qualified for the 2025 National Senior Games® Track and Field Championships in the 50-54 age group in the discus and shot put throws.
Giving back: Last summer, Mirones collaborated with heralded Pennsylvania Northern York High School throws coach Bill Witt to host a free throwers clinic for high school students in Grant County, Ky. He hosts a weekly coaching session for throwers at Grant County Park in Crittenden, Ky., to address Northern Kentucky high schools' lack of throwing coaches.
Mirones considers himself a "recovering journalist." For 30 years, he worked as a broadcast journalist. He earned some of the industry's top accolades, from 13 Emmy® awards to receiving the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award, and earned top honors as "Best Photographer" four times from The Ohio Associated Press Media Editors.
Mirones is proud to focus his multimedia achievements of excellence to assist in recruiting and coaching student-athletes to compete at the highest level for our Georgetown Tigers.
