Tigers go to 2-0 in MSC after Midway sweep

Georgetown improved to 2-0 in MSC play with a clean sweep at Midway on Tuesday night. An efficient offense combined with a smothering defense led to a 25-16, 25-12, 28-26 win.

In the opening set, the Tigers came out to make a statement. Using their depth on this night, the Tigers hit .333 in the opener while limiting Midway to just 6 kills and a .000 hit percentage. The combination of Tyler Chavez and Sean Bohler were too much to handle for the opponent. Georgetown rolled to a 25-16 win to take a 1-0 match lead.

Set 2 saw Midway take an early 3-2 lead. The Tigers would counter with a 13-5 run to take a 15-8 lead and force a Midway timeout. The momentum stayed with the Tigers though and the beat went on. The Tigers forced Midway into 10 attack errors, while again holding the Eagles to just 6 kills. The combination led to a Midway hit percentage of -.160 and the 25-12 win.

Set 3 tightened up as Midway improved its own play while Georgetown came down from the first 2 sets. The Tigers committed 8 errors in the third, more than the first 2 sets combined. Midway had 10 kills in the 3rd set to keep things tight. The teams would trade 3-0 runs through the middle stage of the set, swinging the lead back and forth. Georgetown would eventually build a 23-19 lead late in the set, but a serve error and 3 attack errors from the Tigers and a Midway ace, sent Midway to a 24-23 lead. Georgetown would save 2 set points and face a third at 26-25. Midway would commit 3 straight attack errors at that point, giving the Tigers a 28-26 set win and a sweep of the match.

Finn Heinemann would dish out 31 assists to a Tigers offense that hit .256 on the night. He also added 2 aces and 3 assisted blocks on defense. Tyler Chavez and Sean Bohler finished with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Reece Brown added 5 kills and 7 total blocks. CJ Bride paced the backline with 10 digs, while Tyler Laha added 4 kills, 3 digs and 2 blocks.
