President Allen receives MSC ring ahead of Tigers sweep

The Georgetown Men's Volleyball team presented Georgetown College President, Dr. Rosemary Allen, with a championship ring from the Tigers 2022 Mid-South Conference title, ahead of Wednesday's match against Rio Grande.

The Tigers then put on an impressive display on-court for Dr. Allen as they took care of Rio Grande in straight sets to go to 3-0 in league play.

Defense set the tone early for the Tigers as they limited the Red Storm to only 3 kills in the 1st set and a hit percentage of -.278. On the Georgetown side, the Tigers turned in 12 kills with a .318 hit number to comfortably take the opener, 25-15.

Set 2 was tight through the opening portion as the teams split the first 16 points. Georgetown would then score 3 straight and would not trail again. Back-to-back aces from Reece Brown built the Tigers lead to 16-10, forcing the Red Storm into a timeout. While Rio did get the initial point out of the timeout, Georgetown kept things rolling with 4 straight to push the lead to 20-11. Rio would get within 6, but no closer as Brown closed out the set with 1 of his 7 kills, to take the set, 25-18 and go up 2-0 in the match.

Set 3 was a Georgetown romp. The Tigers hit a blistering .522 in the set, while the Red Storm were again held to a negative hit percentage. LC Newton came on in the 3rd set to replace Kacper Dobrowolski at the setter spot and kept things rolling. Newton delivered 12 assists in the set, while Brandon Gegus tallied an ace, and Tyler Laha added 2 kills in the 3rd. The Tigers rolled to a 25-12 win and a sweep of Rio Grande.

For the match, Georgetown hit an impressive .369, while Rio finished at -.045. The Tigers finished with a balanced offensive attack. Ryan Gunn and Tyree Wesley tied for a team-high 8 kills, while Krzysztof Kowalski and Liam Morrissey added 5 each. Dobrowolski played the 1st 2 sets and dished out 18 assists and had 2 aces. CJ Bride paced the back line with 7 digs.

The Tigers are next in action on Tuesday, February 21st, against Campbellsville at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym, starting at 7:00pm.
