Bohler's strong night leads sweep

Bohler's strong night leads sweep

Sean Bohler took advantage of his move into the starting lineup on Thursday with a strong all-around performance as Georgetown took down Roosevelt in straight sets.

After Roosevelt scored the 1st 2 points in set 1, Georgetown got going with 8 straight, thanks to 6 Laker errors in the run. Tyree Wesley and Michal Bak put kills away in the run, but Georgetown did what good teams do: take advantage of mistakes. Roosevelt called a timeout, but the Tigers kept the pressure on. GC scored 6 of the next 8 to race out to a 16-5 lead with the run polished off by Jose Acuna Yepes. With the lead at 18-7, Sean Bohler made his presence felt. 3 kills and a block assist powered the Tigers to a set win by a 25-11 score.

Georgetown seemed on its way to another rout in set 2 as Bohler capped off an 8-4 start. Roosevelt fought back to tie at 10. Georgetown countered with Adam Szewinski putting a ball away off one of Kacper Dobrowolski's 31 assists. The Tigers reassumed the lead at 11-10 and never trailed again in set 2. Roosevelt got back down 15-14 but 2 more Laker errors followed by a Brantley Deaton kill gave GC the breathing room it needed. It began a 10-3 spurt to close the set out, 25-17, and a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Tigers scored the first 3 in set 3, but the Lakers were determined to push back. 4 consecutive points swung the momentum back to the home side. Roosevelt eventually took an 8-5 lead before Sean Bohler started to get the Tigers back into things with another kill. Moments later, Deaton tied the set at 12 and Jose Acuna Yepes put the Tigers ahead with an ace. With the set tied at 14, Bohler came to the rescue once more. A kill and an ace were part of 3 straight points that gave GC the lead and forced Roosevelt into a timeout. The Lakers answered with 3 straight out of the timeout to tie the set at 17 and would eventually take a 22-21 lead over Georgetown. Sean Bohler again came up huge with another kill for the tie. Adam Szewinski put the Tigers up 23-22 and sent Bohler back to serve. A ball-handling error gave GC match point and after a Roosevelt timeout, Szewinski closed out the set for a 25-23 win and a sweep.

Sean Bohler led the Tigers with 10 kills while hitting .316. He also tallied 6 digs, 4 block assists and an ace. Adam Szewinski's stellar freshman season continued with a performance consisting of 8 kills against just 1 error. Jose Acuna Yepes dominated on the left with 7 kills and a .400 hitting clip. Georgetown's defense also turned in one of its best performances of the year in limiting Roosevelt to a .050 hitting percentage.

The Tigers will stay in Chicago on Friday for a big rematch against Saint Xavier. The teams met in Georgetown on February 24th with the Tigers taking the win, 3-1. First serve in the rematch is set for 8:00pm ET.
