Clark leads men as Tigers finish second

Georgetown College women's cross country runner Maddie Waltmon has been on a mission in the past several races. She has paced the Tigers in each race, finishing with a sub-20 time. Saturday, the junior harrier became the first female Tiger to finish first since Tayler Godar did it in back to back races in 2014.

Waltmon won the Chick-fil-A Invitational hosted by Asbury University, running a top 10 fastest time on the course over the past 40 years.

GC finished second overall, 19 second off the total time by the top team NCAA Division II Bellarmine University. Waltmon bested the closest competitor by more than seven seconds. Rachel Puckett gave GC two runners in the top 10, while Kate Reese and Katie Milby finished 11th and 12th. Lauren Jackson put all five runners in the top 20, while Manny Stovik crossed 21st. Sarah Bailey was one more back of that pack, finishing in 23rd. Hadley Mitchell, Riley Davis, Alexandra Morris, India Pugh and Kirstin Thomas all finished the 5k in under 26 minutes for a great day for the female harriers.

The men's team also took second Saturday less than 10 points behind Midway University. Nick Clark paced the team and finished fifth, while Jaxon Downs (seventh) and Sam Peoples (10th) put three Tigers in the top 10. Ben Kinsey (11th), Wyatt Gatewood (12th) and Bradley Perkins (15th) put six of GC's runners in the top 15. Harrison Booher rounded out the scoring runners for Georgetown, crossing in 23rd.

The Tigers are back on the course Nov. 6 in the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ky.
