Women's Cross Country wins Johnson Invitational; Men run 3rd

On a hot September Saturday in Berea, KY, the Georgetown Women's Cross Country team showed its mettle by winning the Mike and Mary Kay Johnson Invitational at Berea College. The men ran in even hotter conditions to bring home a 3rd place team finish.

The women kicked off the morning at Berea in a 5K run. 4 Tigers placed in the Top 10, led by Clare Wilber's 3rd place finish and time of 21:01. Freshmen Kirsten Geary and Riley Gillis also turned in Top 10 finishes, placing 6th and 10th respectively with times each under 22:45. Sarah Bailey also picked up key points for the Tigers running 9th with a time of 22:42. The Tigers also picked up strong contributions from freshmen Kylee Howe, Isabel Wilber and Kiera Carlee, who all finished in the top 20, as did sophomore Liz Martin.

The men took their turn later in the day under hotter conditions and came through with solid results. In an 8K race, freshman Trevor Baker finished 9th with a time of 28:38. Nick Clark, Tre Troxler, Ben Kinsley, Bradley Perkins, Elijah Walters and Ike Madding all placed in the top 20 to help the Tigers earn a team podium finish.

Both teams will next run in the Live in Lou XC Classic on Saturday, October 1st.
