Snapp takes over Tiger Track & Cross Country

After 14 years as an assistant and head coach of Georgetown Track & Cross Country, Luke Garnett has announced his resignation to take an opportunity outside of collegiate coaching. Assistant Coach Camryn Snapp has been promoted to permanent head coach of both programs.

Snapp takes over after serving as an assistant coach since January 2022. He joined Georgetown after a decorated running career at Campbellsville University. Snapp was named a NCCAA Cross Country All-American as senior in 2020 and was Outdoor Track & Field All-American in his sophomore and junior years in the 4x800 relay. As a junior, he was also named a NAIA All-American in the 4x800. Graduating in 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Snapp was named All-Academic in the Mid-South Conference, NCCAA, and NAIA every year he was eligible.

Snapp spoke about taking on the role of Head Coach. “It is an honor and blessing to be stepping into the Head Coach position for the Cross Country and Track & Field teams here at Georgetown College! I would like to thank Dr. Rosemary Allen, [Vice President of Athletics] Chris Oliver, Luke Garnett, and most importantly My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me this opportunity,” said Snapp. “I am very excited to take these next steps with Georgetown College Cross Country and Track & Field as we aim to surpass goals athletically, academically and spiritually! Let’s get to work! GO TIGERS!”

VP of Athletics, Chris Oliver, noted Snapp’s all-around experience in making him the next Head Coach. “Camryn Snapp has played an integral role in the development of our student-athletes during his time at Georgetown,” Oliver said. “He’s also had a significant impact on the recruitment of our recent classes, and he has a great vision for how we can develop that part of our programs. His increased responsibilities as an assistant coach have allowed him to prepare for this opportunity. We look forward to seeing how he will continue to help our Track and Cross Country programs develop.”

Snapp takes over for the departing Luke Garnett. During his time as Head Coach from 2015-2024, Garnett coached 5 All-Americans, 27 National Qualifiers, and 12 Mid-South Conference Champions. 57 school records were broken in his tenure and 119 student-athletes were named All-MSC. Garnett’s leadership also carried into the classroom as the programs had 215 student-athletes named MSC Academic All-Conference and 30 teams were named NAIA Scholar Teams. In 2015, Georgetown Cross Country was named the Buffalo Funds 5-Star Team of Character.

Vice President of Athletics, Chris Oliver, shared his thoughts on Garnett’s departure. “Luke Garnett has been a staple on our campus for many years. As a proud Georgetown alum, he’s been able to impact the lives of numerous young people through his roles as both a professor and a coach,” Oliver said. “Coach Garnett has helped move our programs forward in many ways. We are excited for him and his family as they take on a new opportunity, and we wish him nothing but the best.”

Coach Snapp’s first venture as Head Coach will be in the 41st Annual Queen City Cross Country Invitational on Friday, August 30th.
