Forish walks off win with grand slam

Sometimes a spark in a game can come from an unlikely source. Georgetown got that in the bottom of the 6th in game 1 against UPike as Ella Forish launched a grand slam over the left field wall, sending GC to an 11-1 win to start the 4-game weekend series.

The slam capped off a strong, consistent offense throughout the opener. In the bottom of the 1st, Kaylyn Barnett and Stevie Shepherd reached via a double and single. Mallory Myers then stepped in, reaching on a fielder's choice that scored Barnett. Myers would steal 2nd and 3rd to set the stage for a RBI double from Cassie Rannells to put the Tigers up 2-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Ella Forish singled to get things going again. Barnett and Shepherd would reach again to load the bases. After a fielder's choice, Sarah Claxon singled up the middle, scoring Barnett and Shepherd and pushing the GC lead to 4-0 heading to the 3rd. Maria Fratangelo would drive home a run in the 3rd via a groundout, giving the Tigers a lead of 5 going to the 4th.

UPike got its first hits and run in the 4th off Sarah Claxon but were limited to just one run. The Tigers would get the run back in the bottom of the inning. Mallory Myers led off with a single then showed her blazing speed by going all the way to 3rd on a Rannells sacrifice bunt. Peyton Beger brought Myers home with a single to left, making the score 6-1, Georgetown.

After a quiet 5th inning, the Tigers looked to finish off the game in the 6th. Myers and Claxon drew walks, leading to a RBI single from Cassie Rannells to score Myers. 2 batters later, Ashley Shelton walked to load the bases and set the stage for Ella Forish. The Tiger catcher barreled an inside fastball and sent the pitch clear over the left field fence for the slam. Forish rounded the bags in disbelief and her team waited for her at home plate to cap off the run-rule win and close a brilliant offensive game.

The Tigers bashed 13 hits and drew 4 walks. 8 Tigers recorded at least 1 hit. Forish had the big day going 3-4 with the grand slam. Sarah Claxon went the distance on the mound, allowing just 5 hits and 1 run over the 6 innings, while striking out 8.
