Tigers polish off 4-game sweep of UPike

Georgetown honored seniors Peyton Beger, Brooke Chick, and Sarah Claxon before the finale of the 4-game weekend series against Pikeville. In a lightning quick game, Sarah Claxon tossed another complete game, allowing just 6 hits and 1 run as Georgetown polished off the 4-game sweep with a 5-1 win, in a game that took less than 90 minutes to complete.

In the bottom of the 3rd and trailing 1-0, Mallory Myers went opposite with a ball to the fence. Using her speed, Myers flew around the bags and landed with a triple. The play scored Stevie Shepherd, who had singled just before Myers came to the plate. Myers would be stranded at 3rd but the game was tied at 1 heading to the 4th.

After a quick, quiet 4th for UPike, Georgetown would take the lead on a Ashley Shelton RBI groundout that scored Cassie Rannells, who led off the 4th with a double to center. The Tigers had the chance for more in the inning but could not capitalize with the bases loaded.

Each team went 1-2-3 in the 5th, and UPike also went 1-2-3 in the top of the 6th. Georgetown did not. Peyton Beger got things going in the bottom of the 6th with a leadoff double. Brooke Chick would come in to run, and the move paid off immediately. Chick scored on an Ashley Shelton single to give the Tigers an insurance run. Destiny Wallace and Kaylyn Barnett would reach base to follow. Stevie Shepherd lined a double to right center to score both Wallace and Barnett to give Sarah Claxon more than enough run support. UPike would record a lone double but nothing else in the 7th as Georgetown finished off the 4-game weekend sweep.

Peyton Beger followed up a walk-off single in the first game of the day by going 3-3 in the finale. Brooke Chick scored in her pinch-running role and Sarah Claxon went the distance for her 4th win in less than a week. She's now 12-4 on the year with a 2.76 ERA.

The Tigers have now won 6 straight overall and will need that momentum as they welcome #3 Cumberlands to town for a 3-game set starting on Friday. It will also be the final home series of the 2023 season.
